New Jibla

Following a major catastrophe on Earth, a Kuwaiti family establishes a new life on Mars in this contemporary play by Saud Al-Sanousi, directed by Julian Webber.

New Jibla dramatises the struggle young citizens face when trying to reconcile the new Martian way of life with the traditions and customs of their former life on Earth. The play takes a satirical look at the future whilst interrogating present-day Kuwaiti values and ideals.

My Involvement

Whilst working on New Jibla for 59 Productions, I was required to engage my generalist’s skillset to create a wide variety of content.

I was assigned the prologue at the top of the show. This montage accompanied an expository voice-over explaining how the Earth had been destroyed and its inhabitants forced to evacuate to other planets.

There is a decidedly tongue-in-cheek character to some of the content I designed; much of it styled after cheesy, retro graphics. An example of this is a looping holding screen playing before the start of the show, featuring a progress bar that never loads.
