In celebration of the Leonard Bernstein centennial, Santa Fe Opera opened its 62nd season with the company premiere of Candide, a new production based on Voltaire’s novella of the same name, featuring music by Bernstein.

My Involvement
Working for 59 Productions, I produced animation and artwork for shots 19 and 20 of the show.
Shot 19 required me to reproduce Voltaire’s hand-written notes and apply a write-on animation, complete with ink spatter flourishes.
Shot 20, the musical number Make Our Garden Grow, marked the finale of the show. It embraced the theme of the garden, featuring a collage of pressed flowers which bloom into life, accompanied by botanical drawings whose deconstructed layers (sketched lines and colour fill) appear with soft, staggered bleeds.
