Bloom Edinburgh International Festival 2017
- Animation
- Artwork
In 1947, the Edinburgh International Festival was established to “provide a platform for the flowering of the human spirit”.
70 years later, Bloom marked this anniversary of the Festival by commissioning 59 Productions to transform all the facades around St Andrew Square into a vast canvas for projection-mapped animations.
Bloom celebrated the joyful transformation of the city over the preceding 70 years, from the darkness and division of the post-war era to a contemporary explosion of colour and spectacle.
My Involvement
Working for 59 Productions, I was tasked with creating animated vignettes depicting post-war Europe. This involved sourcing public domain images and composing them in Photoshop within the bounds of a building’s facade. These vignettes were animated in After Effects, matting on and off with gentle bleeds and containing subtle moving elements.
I also created stills that featured as part of a fast-moving slideshow on the themes of film, jazz, books and tartan.
